*Please note that this list is not the actual or implied Amerks roster for next season — this list includes players on entry-level or two-way contracts with the Buffalo Sabres.
A player that is a restricted free agent (RFA) has reached the end of their initial entry-level contract but is not yet an unrestricted free agent. Their rights are still held by the NHL team.
A player is an unrestricted free agent (UFA) if older than 25 (or after 7 years, whichever comes first) and his contract ends. UFAs can sign with any team.
All new players, under the age of 25, are required to sign an entry-level contract. Entry-level contracts are three years if the player is age 18-21, two years if age 22-24 and one year if age 24.
If a player signs an AHL contract, then he is not eligible to play in the NHL.
If a player is currently on a two-way contract, then his pay is dependent on if he is assigned to the NHL or the AHL. All entry-level contracts are two-way contracts.
If a player is currently on a one-way contract, then he is paid the same amount of money regardless of whether he plays in the NHL or AHL.
The Buffalo Sabres announced last summer the Jacksonville Icemen will serve as the organization's ECHL affiliate. The Icemen have posted back-to-back 40-plus wins and 90-plus points each of the last two seasons, which included club records for wins (44) and points (93) during the 2022-23 campaign. Jacksonville has made the Kelly Cup Playoffs the last three years dating back to 2022.
The 2024 NHL Entry Draft will take place on Friday, June 28 (Round 1) and Saturday, June 29 (Rounds 2-7) at the Sphere in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Buffalo Sabres currently own the 11th-overall pick.
The Buffalo Sabres and Rochester Americans can sign any unrestricted free agents starting on July 1 at 12 p.m. ET.
The Sabres will host their annual Development Camp at LECOM Harborcenter from Monday, July 1 through Thursday, July 4. The official camp roster will be announced at a later date. All on-ice sessions are free and open to the public.
