With the conclusion of the Rochester Americans 2021-22 campaign, it’s hard not to look back at all of the great moments that came from this past season in the Flower City. From the team to the players, there’s a lot to reflect on in.

Here’s a closer look at some of the memorable moments of the season from Amerks forward Ryan Scarfo.

CULTURE DRIVER TO THE CORE

All season long, it was evident there was something special about this team. A large part behind that positive culture was Scarfo, especially when it came down Rochester’s postseason run.

“It’s obviously tough when you’re not playing, you can’t do anything to physically help the team but there’s so much beyond playing on the ice that goes into a playoff run,” said Scarfo. Being in the locker room with the guys, bringing a positive attitude and smile to the rink every day, just having fun and making the guys that are playing feel loose. That’s kind of what I tried to do and just be myself and help out the best way I can.”

In the regular season, Scarfo appeared in 63 games with Rochester, racking up 12 points on four goals and eight assists. Being more of a “role player” with the camaraderie he brought to the locker room, Scarfo mentioned how he’d try to chip in any way that he could when he got the opportunity.

FIRST POSTSEASON APPEARANCE

Scarfo has played in the American Hockey League five seasons now, appearing in 128 total regular season games. However, after playing for the Belleville Senators, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and now Rochester, Scarfo has never appeared in a postseason matchup until this season.

On May 17 against the Utica Comets, Scarfo recorded four penalty minutes in his first postseason appearance in the AHL.

LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT MY BEST FRIEND, JACK QUINN

Amerks rookie forward Jack Quinn made his National Hockey League debut on Jan. 11 as the Buffalo Sabres took on the Tampa Bay Lightning. That night, Quinn became the 101st AHL player this past season to make the jump to the best league in the world.

And at Quinn’s NHL debut, sporting Quinn Amerks jerseys, were defenseman Mattias Samuelsson and Scarfo at glass level. Cheering for their best friend on, arguably, one of the biggest nights of his life.

“We hung out a little bit last year. Obviously, it was tough with COVID just given the circumstances and not really being able to do much outside of the rink,” commented Scarfo when asked when his friendship with Quinn and Samuelsson began. “I would say when we got back to training camp, being some of the guys that were here last year, that’s where it really started to take off. I’m just very fond of those guys.”
