HIGH SCORING AFFAIR ENDS IN 5-5 TIE
The teams combined for six goals over the final 17 minutes of regulation
Jan 23, 2024For the last several weeks, the Rochester Americans have once again been front and center on the local high school hockey scene as part of a weekly series that features the latest news and notes, scores, and stats of select Section V games around the Greater Rochester Area.
Nine different players produced a multi-point effort between WFL Panthers (5-7-3) and Churchville-Chili Saints (1-11-1) as the teams ended in a 5-5 deadlock on Monday at The Blue Cross Arena.
With the tie, WFL’s second in the last four games and third of the season, the club shows a 5-7-3 record through its first 15 games of the season. The Panthers scored a pair of goals in the second period before adding three more in the final frame.
Sean Allen (2+0) and Clark Mauchly (2+0) both scored twice for WFL. Jack McCormack (0+2), Ryan Allen (0+2) and Leo Cohrs (0+2) each recorded two assists for multi-point performances. Robby Johnson (1+0), Trevor Delmarle (0+1), Isaac Pundt (0+1), Collin Trapiss (0+1) completed the scoring as they all totaled one point apiece.
Goaltender Seth Taylor (3-1-3) made his seventh appearance of the season. The netminder made 32 saves but took his third tie over his last four decisions.
Leading point-getters Parker Farnham (2+2) and Jesse Prue (3+1) both notched four points for the Saints. Jake Herring (0+3) and Grayson Galliford (0+2) registered multi-assist efforts while Noah Root and Sam Herring both recorded an assit.
Goaltender Cole Wilson (1-8-1) stopped 27 of the 32 shots he faced in his 12th appearance of the campaign while taking his first tie of 2023-24.
After the first period, which only featured one goal by Farnham, the Panthers added two goals in the middle frame while Churchville-Chili also scored in the stanza.
Johnson kicked off the scoring 1:49 into the second period before Farnham netted his second of the night to reclaim Churchville-Chili’s advantage. Then, 12:14 after the Saints’ second of the game, Sean Allen evened the score prior to the end of the frame.
With a 2-2 score to begin the third period, the teams combined for six more goals in the final 17 minutes of regulation, forcing overtime.
Prue produced a hat trick for the Saints while Mauchly netted a pair before Sean Allen booked his second of the contest to even the game at 5-5.
Neither team scored in the extra frame despite the Saints drawing a hooking infraction and the game finished in a tie.
The Panthers will face Batavia Notre Dame United on Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 6:00 p.m. as they head to McCarthy Memorial Ice Arena in Batavia whereas Churchville-Chili will host Irondequoit for a 7:00 p.m. face-off on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at Lakeshore Arena.
