AHL ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR 2021 PLAYOFFS, START DATE FOR 2021-22 SEASON

HIGH SCHOOL GAME OF THE WEEK: VICTOR VS. PENFIELD

Both teams split their first two games of the 2022-23 Section V season

Over the next several weeks, the Rochester Americans will be front and center on the local high school hockey scene as part of a weekly series that will feature the latest news and notes, scores and stats of select Section V games around the Greater Rochester Area.

This week’s High School Game of the Week features the Victor Blue Devils (1-1-0) facing off against the Penfield Patriots (1-1-0) tonight at 7:00 p.m. at Lakeshore Ice Arena.

Victor comes into the matchup after splitting its first two games of the season, most recently dropping a 2-1 decision this past Friday against McQuaid following a 5-1 season-opening win over the Portside Royals. Of their 18 remaining games, the Blue Devils will be play as visitors 10 times and have 10 total divisional games.

Victor closed the 2021-22 season with 7-1-1 record over its final nine games to finish the campaign 16-2-2 overall. The Blue Devils reached the New York State playoffs and fell 1-0 to West Genesee after tying Penfield 2-2 in the sectionals.

 

Penfield, too, enters tonight’s contest after splitting its first two games of the campaign between Willy East and Starpoint in the WNY High School Showcase this past weekend.

The Patriots are the 2021 Class B Sectional Champions and the 2022 Class A Sectional Champions after posting an 18-1-1 mark, which included a 9-0-1 mark in divisional games last season. Penfield will play nine more games as the home team and eight as the road, which includes a rematch against Victor later this season on Feb. 7.

 

Following Tuesday’s matchup, Victor takes on Hilton in a 7:00 p.m. faceoff on Friday, Dec. 9 while Penfield hosts Potsdam Central at Canton Central High School for a 7:30 p.m. matchup on Thursday, Dec. 8.
