HIGH SCHOOL GAME OF THE WEEK: GREECE VS. PORTSIDE

For the next several months, the Rochester Americans will be front and center of the local high school hockey scene as part of a weekly series that featured the latest news and notes, scores and stats of select Section V games around the Greater Rochester Area.
This week’s High School Game of the Week features the Greece Storm (4-5-0) facing the Portside Royals (6-5-0) on Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. game at SUNY Brockport.
The Storm have gone an even 2-2-0 in their last four games, which includes three shutouts in total and a 2-1 win over Fairport dating back to Dec. 10. Overall on the slate, Greece has been held off the scoreboard three times, two of which have been to the first-place Hilton Cadets, and have been outscored by its opponents 35-22.
Over the previous three seasons, Portside has outshot Greece 109-91while holding a 2-1-0 record in the head-to-head series while the two clubs have alternated wins. In last January's contest, the Storm scored two third period goals before capping a 4-3 overtime win. Greece had claimed a 6-1 matchup with four goals back on Jan. 19, 2023, whereas the Royals netted four unanswered tallies in a 5-2 victory in 2021-22.
Carter Griffin paces all Greece players in goals (5), assists (8), and points (13) while Camden Monks and Jayden Gargana both have added four goals apiece. Monks (10) joins Griffin as the only two Storm players with double digits in points whereas Chase Benham and Noah Hennigan each have a pair of goals. Trever Griffin, Wyatt Pilgrim, Brandon Delaney, Alex Rink, and Azare Carstairs have scored one goal to round out the goal scorers.
Stratos Triantafilou (3-3-0) and Ryan Corey (1-2-0) have managed the goaltending duties for the Storm, with Triantafilou making six appearances compared to Corey’s three. Christian Colon has yet to make his season debut in-between pipes.
Head coach Rob Howell leads the Storm whereas Ryan Bradshaw and Tyler Hickey serve as assistants.
Portside comes into the matchup with a 4-0-0 mark this season when designated as the road team and a 6-5-0 record overall. The Royals’ 44 goals scored are second-most in Section V, which includes a 14-2 win back on Jan. 4. Since the turn of the new year, the club, who is tied for fourth (6) and fifth (12) in the section in wins and points, respectively, has outscored its opponents by a commanding 28-7.
Landen Christ leads all Royals in both assists (9) and points (18) while he and Justin Pastorella (17) are the only two skaters to reach double digits in points. Pastorella pace the team in goals while Christ is second. Connor Thomas (4), Wyatt Pentz (2), Zachary Haines (2), Joseph Mallette (2), Alexander Schram (2), Anthony Ferris (2), and Daivd Blahowicz (2) all compete the list to have multiple goals this season.
Portside has used three different goaltenders this season with Danny Kucmerowski (4-5-0) handling majority of the duties. Zachary Miceli (2-0-0) and Nico Cenname (0-0-0) have combined for three appearances and 41 saves.
Bill McGrath serves as head coach for the Royals while being joined by goalie coach Allen Barton and assistants Jim Gullen and Zac Case. Derek Tarwacki is the manager for Portside.
