HIGH SCHOOL GAME OF THE WEEK: BRIGHTON/HFL VS. FAIRPORT
Jan 10, 2023Over the next several weeks, the Rochester Americans will be front and center on the local high school hockey scene as part of a weekly series that will feature the latest news and notes, scores and stats of select Section V games around the Greater Rochester Area.

This week’s High School Game of the Week features the Fairport Red Raiders (3-5-3) facing off with the Brighton/HFL Bruins (7-4-0) tonight at 7:10 p.m. at Rochester Ice Center.
Fairport enters the contest having split last week’s games with a win and loss and are 3-5-3 overall through the first 11 games of the campaign. The Raiders, who posted a 3-13-3 record in 2021-22, started the campaign 1-2-2 and have gone 1-4-0 since.
With three goals, four assists and seven points, Cody Kaiser and Alex Goldan lead the Raiders offense as they have appeared in each of the 11 games so far this season. Connor McRae (2-4-2) and John Houppert (1-1-1) have handled the goaltending duties with McRae appearing in eight of the 11 games.
Brighton/HFL comes into the matchup winners of three of the four games since Christmas while outscoring its opposition 19-10 during that span. Of the club’s final eight contests of the season, they will play at Genesee Valley Park Ice Rink three times before concluding the slate at McCarthy Memorial Ice Area as they host Batavia Notre Dame United.
Entering this past Saturday’s game, forward Nolan Gangarosa is one of the five Bruins to reach double figures in points (17) while he is tied for the team-lead in goals with Emmet Landt (8). Peter Burslem and Shawn Oelheim top all skaters with 11 and 10 asissts, respectively. All four have appeared in all 11 contests. Braydn Trybuskiewicz is the final player in double digits as he notched six goals and five assists in 11 games.
Goaltender Ryan Hurwitz has played in the first 11 games of the season for the Bruins and boasted a record of 7-4-0 going into last Saturday’s contest with Webster Schroeder. Robert Jank (0-0-0) has seen action in one game this year, making a pair of saves in 11 minutes.
Following the matchup, Fairport heads to Genesee Valley Park Ice Rink as they face-off with Spartan Hockey for a noon face-off on Saturday, Jan. 14 while Brighton will travel to Lakeshore Ice Arena for a 4:45 p.m. puck drop against Greece Storm on Friday, Jan. 13.
