For the next several months, the Rochester Americans will be front and center of the local high school hockey scene as part of a weekly series that features the latest news and notes, scores and stats of select Section V games around the Greater Rochester Area.

The Hilton Central Cadets (9-1-0) scored twice in the first and third periods while holding a 52-24 shot-advantage on Tuesday to cruise to a 5-2 victory over the Canandaigua Academy Braves (3-6-0) at Canandaigua Civic Center.

With the win, the Cadets, who have won seven straight and nine of their last 10, remain atop the Section V with a 9-1-0 record. Additionally, Hilton has outscored its opponents 57-16 through the first 10 games while allowing two or fewer goals in all but two contests.

Canandaigua Academy suffered its fourth loss on home ice this season while also remaining without a win versus the Braves (0-3-2) since the two schools began the head-to-head series in 2021-22. Canandaigua Academy is one of two teams in Section V without a home point but is one of six with at least three victories while serving as the road team in 2024-25.

Late in the first period, Hilton’s leading goal-scorer and point-producer Cameron Stewart gave his team a 1-0 as he netted his 13th of the season from Phil Fiorella at the 13:48 mark. Nearly a minute later, Luke Zelesnikar doubled the Cadets’ lead as he scored an unassisted tally prior to the horn.

In the middle stanza, both teams exchanged goals as Christian Stasko earned the only assist on Karl Warren’s first tally for the Braves before Casey Hanrahan also scored his first of two on the night from Hunter Hutterman and Parker Smith.

Carrying a 3-1 lead into the final period Hanrahan logged his second of the night from Hutteman 83 seconds into the frame before Aiden Kennedy upped the Cadets’ advantage to a four-goal lead from Andrew Paolini.

Warren chipped into Canandaigua Academy’s deficit at the 10:13 mark as Eamon Smith registered the only helper, however it was too-little-too-late in a 5-2 final score.

Goaltender Barrett Paolini pushed his unbeaten streak to seven for the Cadets as he stopped 22 of the 24 shots he faced while Matthew Ulrich (3-6-0) suffered the defeat, despite making a season-high 47 saves.

The Braves will look to snap their losing skid as they travel to face the WFL Panthers on Thursday, Jan. 10 for a 7:00 p.m. tilt at GenevaRecComplex. The Cadets, meanwhile, look to solidify their spot atop the section on Friday, Jan. 11 at 4:00 p.m. as they take on Norwood-Norfolk Central at Tupper Lake Memorial Civic Center.
