The Rochester Americans announced today that the team has signed defenseman Luka Vidmar to a professional tryout contract.
Vidmar, 27, has appeared in 57 games with the ECHL’s South Carolina Stingrays this season, recording 14 points (2+12) and 28 penalty minutes. Last season, he registered 27 points (6+21) and 22 penalty minutes in 62 games with South Carolina. In 177 career ECHL games with South Carolina, Colorado and Las Vegas, the 6-foot-1, 206-pound Vidmar has collected 62 points (11+51) and 106 penalty minutes. A native of Ljubljana, Slovenia, Vidmar played four seasons of collegiate hockey at the University of Alaska-Anchorage prior to his professional career.
In addition, the Buffalo Sabres today announced the team has recalled defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen from the Rochester Americans on an emergency basis.
Ristolainen (10/27/94, 6'4", 219 lbs) joins the Sabres for the second time this season after beginning the season in Buffalo for a 19-game stint during which he collected his first NHL goal. While playing with the Amerks this season, Ristolainen has recorded 18 points (6+12) through 30 games played. The Turku, Finland native was the Sabres' first-round draft selection (eighth overall) in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. He signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the club in July 2013.
