The Rochester Americans announced today that Amerks goaltender David Leggio and forward Rick Schofield will throw out the Ceremonial First Pitches prior to the Rochester Red Wings’ International League home game against the Columbus Clippers on Friday, May 10 at Frontier Field. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. Prior to the game, Leggio and Schofield will also showcase their on-field hitting prowess as they take batting practice with the Red Wings beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Frontier Field.

Leggio, who was named Amerks team MVP for the second straight season in 2012-13, is coming off a career year that saw him lead the American Hockey League in wins, saves and minutes played. He ended the campaign having set new AHL career-highs in all goaltending categories, including goals-against average (2.56), save percentage (.924), wins (38), saves (1,957), shutouts (4), minutes (3,800) and games played (64) and led all AHL netminders with a 9-1 shootout record. He also challenged the AHL record for saves in a season (2,005), coming up shy 48 saves, while also being named the league’s top goaltender for the month of March.

Schofield recently completed his first season with the Amerks, recording a career-high 23 points on seven goals and 16 assists in 58 regular-season games. Schofield also appeared in all three postseason contests for Rochester. Before turning pro, Schofield, a native of Pickering, Ontario, enjoyed a standout college hockey career with Lake Superior State, where he twice led the team in goals and points.

The Amerks, along with the Rochester Red Wings, will host an outdoor hockey event from Dec. 13 to Dec. 22, 2013 at Frontier Field. The 10-day festival will be a celebration of hockey spent outdoors in downtown Rochester, beginning with a regular season AHL game at Frontier Field between the Amerks and an opponent that will be announced at a later date. As part of the event at Frontier Field, the downtown ballpark will also host a college hockey double-header for the RIT men’s and women’s NCAA Division I hockey teams, several Section V High School hockey games, an Alumni Game featuring former players from the Amerks and Buffalo Sabres, and community events. Blocks of ice time will be made available to the public for corporate events, private parties and youth/adult hockey practices and games. Information on scheduling ice time will be forthcoming.

While complete ticket information on all events will be available at a later date, the best way to assure tickets to the Amerks outdoor game is to be an Amerks or Red Wings Season Ticket Holder. For Amerks Season Ticket Holders, the game will be included in their 37-game ticket packages, though they will have the right to opt out of the game. Red Wings Season Ticket Holders will also have access to a ticket presale. Fans that wish to be notified of ticket information via e-mail as it becomes available can do so by visiting www.amerks.com/outdoor.
