Just past the midway point of the 2012-13 AHL season, the Rochester Americans are 22-15-2-1 through 40 games and enter the annual All-Star break in 8th place in the Western Conference standings. Two players that have played a key role in Rochester's first-half success will represent the Amerks in the 2013 All-Star Classic, as captain Kevin Porter and defenseman Brayden McNabb head to Providence, RI to take part in the festivities.

Acquired: Signed with the Buffalo Sabres as a free agent on July 6, 2012

Amerks career: In his first season with the Red, White and Blue, Porter was named team captain prior to the season and has been named to his first career AHL All-Star Classic.
Before the Amerks: Originally drafted by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 4th round (119th overall) of the 2004 Entry Draft… Spent the previous two-plus seasons with the Colorado Avalanche organization.
NHL Career: Made his NHL debut with the Coyotes during the 2008-09 season… Was traded to the Colorado Avalanche during the 2009-10 campaign… Set NHL career-highs with the Avalanche in games played (74), goals (14), assists (11) and points (25) in 2010-11… In 163 career NHL games, has registered 45 points on 25 goals and 20 assists.
Amateur Highlights: Won the 2008 Hobey Baker Award as the top player in college hockey while at the University of Michigan… Led the Wolverines to the 2008 Frozen Four… Played for Team USA in two World Junior Championships (2005, 2006).

Amerks career: As a rookie with the Amerks last season, tied for the team lead in points by a defenseman with 30 (5+25) in 45 games… Was named to the AHL All-Star Classic roster but was unable to play due to a recall to Buffalo.
Before the Amerks: Before starting his professional career with the Amerks last season, McNabb played four full seasons with the Kootenay Ice of the Western Hockey League.
NHL Career: Made his NHL debut with the Sabres last season on Nov. 26, 2011 against the Washington Capitals… Scored his first NHL goal/point against the Capitals on Dec. 26, 2011… Notched his first multi-point game with two assists vs. Edmonton on Jan. 3, 2012… In 25 total games with the Sabres, registered one goal and seven assists.
Amateur Highlights: Led the Kootenay Ice to the WHL Championship and a berth in the 2011 Memorial Cup while serving as team captain…Was a two-time WHL All-Star.
