Head-to-Head: The Amerks and Baby Pens will faceoff twice during the 2012-13 regular season, beginning on Friday, Oct. 26 when the Amerks travel to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The two teams are idle until the Penguins make their only trip to Western New York on Friday, Jan. 25 to bring the season series to a close. Rochester was held winless through two get-togethers versus Wilkes-Bare/Scranton last season, including its 5-1 loss to the Pens in the team’s Home Opener back on Oct. 13. The Amerks are 12-13-7 all-time against the Baby Pens in regular season play.
Who’s Who: Of the 34 players currently participating in this year’s Training Camp, 20 played at least one game with the Amerks last season, including forwards Marcus Foligno, Corey Tropp and Luke Adam and defensemen T.J. Brennan and Brayden McNabb. Coming off a career year between the pipes in 2011-12, reigning team MVP David Leggio rounds out the list of players returning to Rochester after starting the last 23 straight games of the season to help the Amerks secure a playoff berth. The Amerks also see the return of two familiar faces in forwards Mark Mancari and Nick Tarnasky, who were both re-acquired as free agents. Mancari currently ranks 46th among all-time forwards in franchise history with 156 points (62+94) in 215 career games with Rochester from 2005-08.
Home Opener Set For Friday, Oct. 12: The Amerks will open their 57th season in the American Hockey League on Friday, Oct. 12 against the intrastate rival Syracuse Crunch at The Blue Cross Arena. The game will mark the first of 10 meetings on the season between the two teams and the second time in four years Rochester will open its season against its cross-town foe.
