The Rochester Americans announced today that former Amerk and Buffalo Sabre forward Rob Ray and Amerks goaltender David Leggio will appear at the Rochester Red Wings baseball game on Friday, Aug. 24 as part of “Hockey Night” at Frontier Field. The Red Wings host the Lehigh Valley IronPigs at 7:05 p.m.  Gates open at 6 p.m.

Ray and Leggio will be on hand to meet fans and sign autographs starting at 6 p.m. before throwing out Ceremonial First Pitches prior to the game.  On Saturday, Frontier Field will host the inaugural Amerks Street HockeyFest, which will take place outside the ballpark in the VIP parking lot.

Ray, who currently serves as the color analyst for the Sabres and has been part of the broadcast team for eight years, played more than 1,000 combined games for the Amerks and Sabres, including 889 for Buffalo, which ranks fourth all-time in franchise history. He is also the Sabres’ all-time leader in penalty minutes.   Leggio is coming off a season in which he was named the Amerks’ Most Valuable Player after setting career-highs in wins and goals against average while leading the American Hockey League in saves.

Friday’s Red Wings game also features postgame fireworks presented by the Democrat & Chronicle and a team photo giveaway for the first 5,000 fans presented by the Hillside Family of Agencies, Connolly Printing, Messenger Post Media and 96.5 WCMF.

On Saturday, the inaugural Amerks Street HockeyFest, a tournament for boys and girls ages 7 to 17, will take place.  As part of the tournament, the Amerks and Rochester Police Department’s Police Activities League are joining forces for an exhibition street hockey game between Amerks Alumni and members of the Rochester Police Department. While the street hockey tournament begins at 9 a.m., the Amerks Alumni vs. Rochester Police Department exhibition game is scheduled for approximately 2:30 p.m.

The Amerks Alumni team will be represented by forwards Jody Gage and Chris Taylor, along with defenseman Rory Fitzpatrick.  The Rochester Police Department team will consist of officers who participate in the Police Activities League.
