The Rochester Americans announced today that the Amerks, along with the Rochester Red Wings and Monroe County Sports Commission, will host the inaugural “Amerks Street HockeyFest” for kids ages 7 to 17 on Saturday, Aug. 25 in the VIP parking lot at Frontier Field, home of the Red Wings.

Registration for the street hockey tournament is now open on www.amerks.com.  The tournament is open to boys and girls ages 17 and under at a cost of $125 per team. Each team will consist of up to five players and will be guaranteed at least three games in the all-day event, which begins at 9 a.m. Every player will also receive a Street HockeyFest t-shirt, as well as a free ticket to the Red Wings’ AAA baseball game versus the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs on Friday, Aug. 24 and a voucher for a ticket to the Amerks 2012-13 Home Opener on Friday, Oct. 12.  During the tournament, several concession stands inside Frontier Field will be open.

The Red Wings game on Friday night will be “Hockey Night” at the ball park, with special guests from the Amerks/Sabres organization scheduled to make appearances.  Participants can also pick up their registration kits that night outside the Frontier Field Box Office.

Registration for the tournament will be limited to 40 teams on a first come, first serve basis. The tournament will consist of five divisions based on age:

• Mite (8 & under; 2004)

• Squirt (10 & under; 2002-2003)

• Pee Wee (12 & under; 2000-2001)

• Bantam (14 & under; 1998-1999)

• Midget (17 & under, 1997-1995)

Games will be played 3-on-3 plus a goaltender and one optional substitute. Participants are responsible for bringing their own equipment, including sneakers, hockey sticks and gloves. Goaltender equipment is mandatory, while helmets are mandatory for mites and squirts.  Additional protective gear is optional, but recommended.  Each player will also need to complete a waiver prior to participating.
