News | 7/12/2012 | ROCHESTER AMERICANS

The 2011-12 Rochester Americans’ season was filled with great moments – highlight reel goals, Hall of Fame inductions, unforgettable nights at The Blue Cross Arena and memorable events in the community.  We’re taking one last look back at the season and are asking Amerks fans to vote and tell us what YOU thought was the Best Moment of the 2011-12 Amerks season!

Brennan Snipe from the Point
Defenseman TJ Brennan proved to be a sniper from the back end this past season.  He scored several clutch goals, whether blasting pucks from the blue line or creeping in and picking corners.  In addition to scoring first NHL goal in his first NHL game back in November, Brennan also recorded a career-high 16 goals in just 52 games with the Amerks.  His 16 goals left him just two shy of Amerk Hall of Famer Rick Pagnutti’s single-season franchise record for most goals by a defenseman, but Pagnutti played in 20 more games that season (1972-73) than Brennan did this year.

Whitmore Four-Goal Game
Rochester native Derek Whitmore recorded a career-high 28 goals this season, with four of them coming in dramatic fashion on Nov. 26.  With six members of the Amerks playing for the Sabres in Buffalo that night, the Amerks were shorthanded and in need of a spark.  Whitmore provided that spark, scoring four times to lead Rochester to a 5-3 victory and becoming the first Amerk player to score at least four goals in a game since Jason Pominville scored five times on Oct. 21, 2005.

Cake-Eating Contest
One of the more entertaining games of each season for the fans in the Moose’s birthday bash, where area mascots attend to help celebrate the occasion.  This season’s festivities included a cake-eating contest for several of our younger fans.  Instead of reading a description of the contest, just have a look at the video…

Cotton-Eyed Joe Dance
Like the Cake-Eating Contest, this next “moment” is easier to see for yourself than to read about.  However, it should be noted that the Amerks fan in this video is devoted to the team and puts his passion and enthusiasm on display for Rochester each and every game.  In addition, his performances always come at crucial moments of the game!
