Stationed at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, Cappon and his two sisters worked with the Amerks to plan the surprise for their parents, who were completely unaware that Jerry was back in Rochester. Following the game, Jerry visited the Amerks locker room to meet the players, including Phil Varone, with whom he had previously exchanged messages on Twitter.
Amerks Play an Afternoon of Outdoor Hockey With a day off from practice on Monday, Jan. 16, the Amerks decided to take it outside and have some fun. The Amerks participated in the City of Rochester’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Day festivities at Manhattan Square Park. First, the Amerks coaches “drafted” six teams and organized a three-on-three tournament, which was presided over by Head Coach Ron Rolston. Sporting eye black and winter hats, the players competed in an hour-long tournament amongst themselves. After some spirited play, fans were welcomed onto the ice to skate with the players, making it a memorable winter day for all involved.
