The Rochester Americans have clinched a berth in the 2012 Calder Cup Playoffs, marking the 42nd time in the 56-year history of the franchise that the Amerks have advanced to the postseason.

The Amerks, led by first-year head coach Ron Rolston, finished the 2011-12 regular season with a record of 36-26-10-4 for 86 points to qualify for the playoffs.  Rookie Phil Varone led the team in scoring for the season with 52 points on 11 goals and 41 assists, while Derek Whitmore led the team with a career-high 28 goals.  Goaltender David Leggio, who was named team MVP, enters the postseason having started 23 consecutive games and posted a career-high 28 wins this season.  He finished with a 28-24-2 record to go along with a 2.63 goals against average, a .917 save percentage and two shutouts.
